New CEO of Santander Nordics
Morten Helland has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Santander in the Nordics, replacing Michael Hvidsten.
After 20 years in Santander and the last 13 years in his current role, Michael Hvidsten, CEO of Santander in the Nordics, has decided to pursue new opportunities outside the Bank and will step down from his role at the end of November.
- It has been a pleasure to lead Santander in the Nordics. It’s been a true journey of growth, coupled with the solid results we have delivered together with the best team in banking. I leave with more moments and memories than I can count, says Hvidsten.
During his tenure, Hvidsten has led the business through growth and change. Launch of new products such as consumer loans and deposits, the acquisition of GE Money and Ford Credit, securing our #1 position in Auto across the region as well as the reorganization from 4 countries to one Nordic bank.
During the first quarter of 2025 he will take the role of Chairman of the Board of Santander Consumer Bank AS, subject to the necessary approvals, and continue as Chairman of our Finnish business.
Morten Helland, currently Global Business Development & Partnerships Director, based in Madrid, will assume the role as CEO. He brings significant experience to the team after a total of 13 years in Santander, both locally and in HQ. He joined Santander in 2011 as Head of Nordic Deposits and has since then held several positions in the Bank, including Change and Integration Manager, and Organization & Cost Director.
- I am looking forward to build on our successes and work together with the team to serve our partners and customers in the best way possible, says Helland.
Helland will take over as CEO effective December 1st, 2024.
